Sayler Beerwinkle, a sophomore social work major, has a busy schedule over the break. She plans to stay in Abilene for the first part of the break, as she is part of the HSU women’s basketball team.

“I will be playing a lot of basketball over the break,” Beerwinkle said. “We will even travel to Georgia after Christmas to play,” she said.

For Christmas, Beerwinkle plans to travel back to her hometown, Earth, Texas.

“I’m going to go to a candlelight service on Christmas Eve,” she said. “And then go to my aunt’s house to eat tamales and soup and make cookies with my cousins and siblings.”

On Christmas Day, Beerwinkle said she will travel to and from three different places for various celebrations.

“I’ll be going from my mom’s to my dad’s and then my grandmother’s, doing different things to celebrate Christmas!” she said.

Courtney Jackson, a senior graphic design major, also has big plans for Christmas break, including getting married to her fiancé, Alex Govea.

Govea and Jackson met at HSU and plan to get married on January 6th, 2024, in Salado, Texas. Before the wedding, Jackson said she will be traveling a good amount.

“I’ll be traveling a lot with Alex, going back and forth between his family and my family,” she said. “I will have Christmas celebrations on the 23rd, 24th, and the 25th.”

Govea and Jackson will go to Utah or Colorado for their honeymoon before returning to HSU for the spring semester.

“A lot of my break will be planning and preparing for the wedding, but I’m so excited for it,” Jackson said.

Stay safe, and have a Merry Christmas, Cowboys!
