December Graduation Spotlight: Veronica Aguirri

Veronica Aguirri will graduate with a master’s degree in physician assistant studies from Hardin-Simmons University on December 15, 2023. Aguirri first joined HSU in 2011, earning a master’s in family psychology in 2013 and then working full-time in the office of academic advising. While a full-time employee at HSU, she worked toward the goal of entering the PA program.

“My first years at HSU helped me learn invaluable skills to grow into a more confident student and woman,” she said. “The faculty that embraced me and my journey those first few years are what made me come back as an employee and then apply to the PA program here.  It has been the amazing faculty directed then under Dr. Jennifer Eames and now Dr. Tina Butler that made it the easiest decision to return to HSU.” 

While mentioning that her journey hasn’t been easy, Aguirri expressed her thankfulness for the support she received throughout her experience.  

“I’ve been bolstered by the love and support of my amazing family and, most notably, my husband,” Aguirri said.  “He has been front and center throughout this entire ride never failing to encourage me, to remind me of ‘my why,’ and support our family as I fulfilled a lifelong dream.  There are no words that could fully encompass the gratitude I have for his love and support.” 

Aguirri currently serves as the Class of 2023 President for the Physician Assistant Program and has volunteered with numerous organizations including HSU Celebrates Women. Aguirri mentioned she will miss her friends that she has made and the memories she created at HSU. 

“[The friendships I made] are forever etched in my heart and I will hold our memories and crazy late night study sessions complete with crazy mnemonics dearly.  To Desiree Jones and Lexi Hall, your friendship means more to me than I could ever say,” Aguirri said. 

Aguirri mentioned her family is “just not ready to leave Abilene” yet after her graduation.  

“I will be working for a great organization where I will improve my skills as a PA and work towards building my career in family medicine,” she said. 

Aguirri wanted to take time to thank those who affected her HSU experience. 

“Thank you to our professors, staff, and preceptors who continue to devote their time and invest in our education. To the HSU PA Class of 2023, we did it! Go forth and conquer!”
